Unicode normalizer

Compare the four Unicode Normalization Forms. NFC/NFD preserve canonical equivalence; NFKC/NFKD also apply compatibility mappings.

NFC
NFD
NFKC
NFKD

NFKC and NFKD can remove compatibility distinctions (for example width or encoded style differences). Do not apply them blindly when those distinctions matter.

The four normalization forms

NFD canonically decomposes text and NFC recomposes where possible. NFKD and NFKC additionally apply compatibility decompositions, which can turn visually or semantically specialized characters into more basic forms.

Choosing a form

NFC is commonly suitable for general web text. Compatibility forms are useful in specific domains but can erase distinctions you intended to preserve.
